Denver, Colorado is beloved by many of its residents, with its vast number of outdoor activities, major sports teams, and behemoth corporate entities. 1.) Civic Center

First, we have Civic Center, located in downtown Denver. With many cultural and historical attractions including the Denver Art Museum, the Capitol Building, and Civic Center Park, high traffic is a given. Heavy foot traffic means more people (obviously), and more people means a higher chance one or a few of those people might be deranged enough to commit a crime. Civic Center's crime rate is 5.08%, which means 50.8 out of 1000 people (per month) are victims of a violent crime in 2025 (Denver Crimes). Aggravated assault, robbery, homicide, and sexual assault are a few crimes that occur the most at Civic Center. Enjoy what the area has to offer, but keep your head on a swivel.

2.) Sun Valley

Situated in West Denver, Sun Valley holds the highest poverty rate in the city, with >80% of its residents experiencing high levels of poverty. Separated by highways and train tracks, this neighborhood is impacted the most by homelessness in the city. With large encampments situated on 8th & Navajo, residents have long been expressing their concerns with the rising homeless population. While there are current projects underway to address this issue, visible drug use and unsanctioned encampments still plague the area.

3.) Five Points

Located in Northeast Denver, Five Points is known for having the highest gang presence in the city. From high gang-related crime rates to constant drug distribution, this neighborhood has become a major hub for gang activity. Taking advantage of poverty levels in the area, Five Points has become a central location for gang recruitment, as new wealth preys on the those who have experienced generational poverty. This neighborhood averages about 25 violent crimes per month (Denver Crimes). While turf wars are most common, visitors and residents should still remain vigilance when passing through the area.
